With the recent appointment of Paul Jepson as Artistic & Executive Director 2015 sees the theatre returning to Arts Council England's national funding portfolio and also producing once more, beginning with our 2015 family Christmas show – A Christmas Carol. A 460 seat mid-scale house, the theatre plays a central role in the cultural life of the community it serves – 551,000 homes within a 45 minute drive-time including a population of 120,000 in Exeter (during the day this swells to 250,000 people), and is a magnet for thousands of people of all ages who are interested in attending live performance. From families introducing their younger members to theatre for the first time to a lively retired community that loves the classics, we cater for everyone. As a University City there is no shortage of people of all ages who are adventurous and eclectic in their tastes as well as schools who value the opportunity to bring their students to see a live show as part of their learning. The Exeter Northcott Theatre's beautifully designed stage and auditorium works exceptionally well for all types of theatre and dance. Our audiences are notably engaged and enthusiastic making every performance memorable and the theatre is regularly cited as a favourite venue by national touring companies for this reason. Touring companies also compliment our exceptionally high quality technical and marketing support. 'ETT is always delighted when it can bring a show to The Exeter Northcott. Not only do we receive a warm welcome and great technical, marketing and front of house support, but we can depend on strong audiences who always seem to appreciate our work. All designs seem to sit well in this lovely space and productions are seen at their best.' English Touring Theatre Further details about the Exeter Northcott Theatre and its current season can be found on our website www.exeternorthcott.co.uk Exeter Northcott Theatre collaborates with leading edge funded touring companies to present new writing, classic plays, physical theatre and devised/experimental work (e.g. Out of Joint, Headlong, English Touring, Vamos, Shared Experience and Theatre Alibi). We have recently worked hard to strengthen our commercial and pre West End offer and have presented tours of The Mousetrap, Under Milk Wood, Birdsong and The History Boys. In addition to our strong drama offering we are a regional corner stone venue for dance, programming national touring artists and supporting workshops as well as providing opportunities for emerging companies and performers. We have a long-standing relationship with English Touring Opera and have begun a three year agreement marketing and ticketing Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra in the University of Exeter's Great Hall, adjacent to the theatre. A major element of the programme is our work for families and young people, who currently represent 40% of our annual attendance. We programme work for family audiences of all ages, including work for early years. 'We both wanted to say how much we value the way you are encouraging a new, younger audience with children's shows, that we really appreciate the variety of mainstream and more unusual productions as well, and finally to say that it has been a great joy to come and watch more theatre again. We spent the rest of the afternoon planning what else we 'needed' to book for this season!' Our Creative Futures initiative is a partnership with the University of Exeter Student Guild that is helping to develop student employability opportunities and deepen connections between the cultural sector and student body. In 2013 the theatre became a registered charity. Since then it has worked hard to raise funds to support its core running costs and to deliver on its exciting and expanding new plans. The theatre hosts a number of fundraising events each year, including its Charity Command Performance. In addition to this it increasingly works with corporates and individuals to fund new projects such as the return to producing work and the newlyDear User, This Beta Support Newsletter brings you all the latest news about Beta and Beta products, provides you with notes and information on the latest product versions and also keeps you up to date with those all-important PTFs required to keep things running smoothly. SAM - A new member of the Beta product family As you may already know, Beta Systems took over the operating business of SYSTOR Security Solutions GmbH in Cologne, a subsidiary of the bankrupt Systor AG, Zurich, company on February 11th 2003. The contract includes acquisition of all rights to the Security Administration Manager (SAM) product line, its customer and service contracts, and the acquisition of about 80 employees in the development, sales and marketing, and services divisions in Cologne and Washington D.C. We would now like to briefly acquaint you with our new product, SAM: SAM is used by a number of large corporations in Germany, Europe, and North America for the central and system-wide administration of user rights. SAM administers user accounts and access rights automatically. The system enables over 90% of security administration tasks to be automated, ensuring that users' function-specific and task-specific access rights are always available. More than 100.000 user accounts can be handled simultaneously, and RACF, NT and Unix security systems, as well as applications and database systems security functions, are supported. Connection is made via target system agents (Target System Interfaces) Standard agents can also be used for making connections with, among others: - Operating systems (e.g. Unix, OS/400, Windows, z/OS via RACF, Top Secret, ACF/2) - Databases (e.g. Oracle, DB/2), or also - Applications (e.g. SAP R/3) Administrative operations in SAM lead to updates in the target system and SAM is also informed of any changes to rights in the target systems, enabling the security procedures to be monitored and enforced. With the addition of SAM, Beta Systems Security Suite expands to become an enterprise-wide, cross-platform security management system. (HEF) =========================================================================== 1. Beta 85, V1R9 – available as of 19.2.2003 A new product tape for Beta 85 V1R9 became available on 19.2.2003. The bulk mailing to all existing customers has now been completed. The new functions are briefly: - Multi HSM function (max. 9 DFHSM systems can be defined) - Multi-cluster function (max. 4 physical VSAM files for 1 logical MCDS and EBCDS file can be stored.) - 24576 Backup versions for non-DFHSM backups are now possible. (JUS) =========================================================================== 2. Beta 88 V3R4 – French language support A new Beta 88 product tape was released on 14.3.2003: V3R4, PTF-Stand PSB6205. Beta 88 V3R4 also now supports the French language. With the release of this tape, the Beta 88 zSecurity Auditor V3R4 (GUI) of 14.3.2003 is also now available with a French user interface The tape will be sent out only on request and is of interest only to French customers and new V3R4 customers. Customers who already have the V3R4 NEW tape of September 2002 won't need the new tape. Please note: The V3R4 product status for French customers is not included in our review of current product status! (BAK) =========================================================================== 3. A direct link: SAP R/3 und Beta 93 – SAP Input This new VIDiDOC Suite module will be of interest to all customers who read SAP R/3 spool output into Beta 93 (MVS) by EDF (Extended Input) for further processing, or intend to do this. Up until now, you could only transfer values for form, extension or job name via the "indirect route" of an R/3 banner page. EDF required a definition for where the values were to be scanned out again, then the banner page was deleted again using a report in Beta 93. Sounds difficult? It is. With SAP Input, there is now a much more elegant, and also SAP-certified link between SAP R/3 and Beta 93. Beta 93 can be directly set up via SAP Input as an output management system (connection type E) in R/3. R/3 print parameters can then be directly transferred as parameter lists, and values such as form, extension, owner etc. transferred to Beta 93. Direct call has several advantages: - avoiding the line printer spooler interface means an R/3 banner page is no longer needed - the spool request only gets the status "printed" in R/3 once the list has also really arrived in Beta 93, and - you can easily read in PCL or PostScript from R/3 SAP Input is available for - Windows NT (from 4.0 SP 4 or higher) - Linux (from 2.2.19 Kern or higher) - Solaris (from version 8 or higher) and - AIX (from version 4.3.3 or higher) If you are interested in this solution, please contact your sales representative. Discussion forum for Beta products on the Internet - "eulen forum" We are pleased to again be able to publish a contribution from one of our readers, Markus Linder. Mr. Linder works for Swisscom IT Services AG and is the Beta 92 user-group leader in Switzerland. He wrote: >> Communication and the flow of information between colleagues is as important now as it ever was. Unfortunately this exchange of ideas and experiences is often neglected. To improve this exchange of ideas amongst themselves, a couple of "Beta friends" (Beta product users) had the idea of using a Yahoo! newsgroup as a forum for this purpose. Yahoo! newsgroups are a gratis service from Yahoo! There are already others for other "IT topics", e.g. for IBM's "TWS" product. This newly-founded discussion forum for users and friends of Beta Systems' software is called in German "eulen forum" (the owls' forum). Members will profit on the one hand, from the Yahoo! newsgroup's main function, its "mailing list", and on the other hand from the forum's extra Web services, e.g. the collection of "Links", a "Tips & Tricks" collection, and from surveys. The exchange of ideas and experiences within the framework of this Yahoo! newsgroup will take place independently of, (i.e. outside), Beta Systems. If you are interested in contributing to this "eulen forum" just register with this eGroup. All you need to participate is a Yahoo ID, which is also free. A Yahoo! email address is not required. You will find instructions for how to use a Yahoo newsgroup and register as a member at: ftp://ftp.betasystems.com/pub/documents/eulen-forum.pdf If you would like to, you could just have a quick read through the instructions, then look at the site at: http://de.groups.yahoo.com/group/eulen-forum >> (Markus Linder) (Editor's note: Beta employees can also sign in to the eulen-forum. The personal experiences and opinions expressed there will be their own. Beta Systems as a company exerts no influence over the content of the forum and also naturally takes no responsibility for the form and content of other members' contributions to the discussion.) =========================================================================== 6. Current product status Due to the amount of various information in this section we have decided to separate out the tables in it to make it easier for you to read. We have expended the table "Availability of WIF" to include the availability of all Beta products for UNIX, Linux, z/Linux, USS, Windows and SAP, and these operating systems' various levels of development. Because of this expansion, this table has however become "too high" and "too wide", so that we can no longer publish it in this form in this newsletter. We apologize for this and refer you instead to our web site (the link in the last chapter of this section). We keep the information published there up to date and it is therefore just as current as the information in the newsletter. 6.1. Tips and Tricks 7.1. Bxx_TCPIP_IPADDR - IP addresses for Beta STCs Most Beta products have TCP/IP connections to distributed systems. - EDF (Extended Input) for receiving job logs or documents from Unix, Linux or Windows. - WIF (Web Access) for access to Beta 92 or 93 via a Web Browser - direct IP printing on Line Printer Demon or the IPP printer from Beta 93 - PC GUI for Beta 88 - Beta 48 Tracker Clients or Beta 48 Web Interface - etc. There are several ways to assign IP address(s) to Beta STCs: Exact entry of the IP address in the LST member BETA.PARMLIB(BxxLST00): Bxx_TCPIP_IPADDR = xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx or in the STC procedure: //BETAxx EXEC PGM=BSS01SFF, // PARM=('S=xx,B01LST=00,BxxLST=00', // 'Bxx_TCPIP_IPADDR=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx'), // TIME=1440,REGION=128M If the STC should use all available IP addresses or network adapters, enter the following parameter: Bxx_TCPIP_IPADDR = 0 2.) If DNS names are used instead of IP addresses, the STC procedure SYS1.STCPROC(BxxSTC) must be extended by the following DD statements, in which your DNS servers, among other things, are defined: //SYSTCPD DD DSN=YOUR.TCPPARMS(TCPDATA),DISP=SHR The DNS name can then be parameterized in the BxxLST-Member, e.g. Bxx_TCPIP_IPADDR = dns_name 3.) If a DNS name corresponding to an MVS system variable is to be used, the B01LST-Member BETA.PARMLIB(B01LST00) has to be extended with the following parameter: SYSVAR_SUPPORT = YES You can then enter the following into BETA.PARMLIB(BxxLST00) Bxx_TCPIP_IPADDR = &SYSNAME 4.) You can also use virtual IP addresses, which are managed by an external tool (e.g. VIPA) These addresses are entered like "normal" IP addresses into the BxxLST Member: Bxx_TCPIP_IPADDR = xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx The resolution of the virtual IP addresses is done via the external tool (MGS) =========================================================================== 8. PTFs/Updates From our experience of working with the products and on the basis of recommendations from the product hotlines we would advise you to install the following fixes as a precautionary measure: Beta 93, V3R4 - PPM6143, B93ONSEL PPM6144, B93WISEL PPM6145, B93BPRNT PPM6146, B93BRLD Improved online performance in selecting via Reci Improved performance of the related batch programs - PPM6104, B93RSCAN PPM6105, B93SCANS PPM6106, B93WTRS Rescan correction => A l l PTFs must be installed together!!! - PPM6159, B93WTRS Only applies to ACIF-converted lists written in Beta 93 Fast Retrieval -> Generation only from a conversion request PPM6159 requires PPM6104 and PPM6105! You can order these from the relevant product hotlines. The PTFs published here have been available for download from our FTP server since 30.03.2001. ftp://ftp.betasystems.com/pub (ANR) =========================================================================== 9. For collection RPG –Customer report on writing definitions for lists and reports in a file. Mr. Konrad Bayer from ITERGO Informationstechnologie GmbH has kindly made a report available to us which he and his colleague Ms. Mareile Kronenberg complied themselves and have also used in practice. Thank you for your contribution! Mr. Bayer wrote: "Our goal was to compile a report which writes a file of Beta 93 definitions for lists and reports. This data was needed for a mass change of the production JCL to produce new naming conventions. Just a few words on the output file's setup: - The list is sorted according to form – name, based on a 5-line format All relevant information is assembled in blocks of 5, followed by a blank line for better visual scanning. The Beta 93 fields thus written are separated from each other by an } (X'DC')to make electronic post-processing (REXX) easier. - The content of line 1 is: FORM } EXTENSION } REPORT } ==> REPORT is however usually empty - Line 2 contains the list title LTITLE } - The third line contains the print attribute and autoprint: DCR } AUTO } - Line 4 contains the print attribute, with title and owner. PCR } PCRTITLE } OWNER} - In the 5th line you will find the resolution of the print attribute PCROUTP } ==> FORMDEF, PAGEDEF, PRMODE, BURST / NOBURST are shown here."
